COVID-19 and the Public Library: One Year Later
March 2021 was an absolute mind melting experience. Having flashbacks to the last normal pictures we took a year ago, the last program (ours was a music program with 300 attendees) and the overwhelming realization that this is NOT over yet. (Despite some people pretending it is)
My state hosted the ENTIRE NCAA Men's Basketball tournament, and the day after the championship our Governor got rid of the mask mandate. To say I am still in a state of high alert is an understatement.
Mr. Dan the Music Man March 11, 2020On the public library front, we are currently still operating as cautiously as we can. We are open, with expanded hours but currently have limited seating, no study/meetings rooms, and all our programming is still virtual. That will change come August. I am meeting with my programmers to discuss reasonable ways that we can return to limited in person programming while staying as safe as possible.
We have our summer planned out with virtual programs and IN PERSON outreach to our local parks. I recently did a story walk book reveal and it was SO fabulous to read to people in real life again. Everyone was so respectful and wore masks the whole time.
My vaccine appointment is in one week and that brings me the most hope I have had in a long time.
